Bamako airport

Extension and reinforcement of the runway at Bamako international airport, carried out as part of a consortium. Phase 1 of the project consisted primarily in earthworks and involved extending the existing runway by 500 metres. This was followed by the reinforcement of the runways and taxiing areas.
Some 70,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid on the runway with 4 asphalt finishers.

Highlight: Detailed, rigorous scheduling with night work to limit the impact of the works on the airport's ongoing activities. For this fastpaced, short-duration project, the client required a very large equipment fleet.

Contracting authority: Malian government, represented by the MCA Mali
Project management: AECOM
