Lille, Rennes, Toulouse Metros

Lille: Construction of lot 3 of line 2 of theLille metro. A tunnel, 3,200 metres long with an inner diameter of 6.80 metres, was excavated with an EPB TBM before the precast concrete segments were installed.
The 4 stations, each 54 metres in length, were built using diaphragm walls. Also part of the project was an access shaft 38 metres long and 15 metres wide on average and three ventilation shafts with inner diameters of 8 metres and
underground cross passages excavated using conventional methods.

Rennes: Construction of the central section of Rennes' first metro line, a VAL system developed by Matra. A tunnel, 3,563 metres long with an inner diameter of 6.80 metres, was excavated with an EPB TBM before the precast concrete segments were installed. The 7 underground stations, all approximately 30 metres long, 15 metres wide and 20 metres deep, were constructed within diaphragm walls or soldier pile (i.e. Berlin) walls.

Toulouse: Construction of lot 4 of line B of the Toulouse metro. A tunnel, 3,784 metres long with an inner diameter of 6.80 metres, was excavated with a slurry pressure balance TBM before the precast concrete segments were installed. The 6 underground stations, all 53 metres long and 15 metres wide, were constructed between diaphragm walls including 4 cut using a Hydrofraise machine to a depth of between 15 and 22 metres. This lot also included 8 auxiliary structures: 3 for ventilation and 5 for filtering.

Highlight: Work carried out in a dense urban area with the tunnels passing under buildings.
