Tunnelling : Road tunnels

Bussière tunnel

Construction of a twin-tube road tunnel on the A 89 motorway near Tarare. The two tubes (north tube 950 metres long, south tube 940 metres long, cross section of almost 90 m²) were bored using drilling and blasting.
The project was completed by four vaulted structures at both entrances of the tubes, each between 40 and 60 meters long, two cross passages and safety recesses.

Highlight: The twin tunnels were excavated by the drilland- blast method using an on-site mobile explosives manufacturing unit, which reduced the quantity of explosive material on the worksite. Work on the two tunnels was carried out in parallel. The worksite was subject to extreme environmental constraints.
